hiya frnds....one of our old frnds....srman jain has became an overnight sensation....with his kewl music vedio called "scent of desire"....he's rocking the charts... CT gets up, close and personal with the scent of this man
Silky Kumar definitely sounds strange. Is that your name?
Yes, it is my screen name but in reality I’m known as something else which I don’t want to divulge now.
What made you decide on a video that’s so different?
Since this was to be my debut video, I knew I had to do something different to draw everyone’s attention. I had two options either very comic or very sad. I chose the former.
Who conceptualised the whole video then?
It’s my concept and I think people have appreciated it. I was aiming at a global audience and I always had this in mind. I wanted people in India to say, Ye to apna Mithunda jaise dikhta hai and an international audience to say, Doesn’t this guy resemble Elvis? I also have five costume changes in the album. I had made the video earlier and then got in touch with a music channel and after airing it, they got a good response from all over.
Why a song titled The Scent of Desire?
We have been listening to various love songs but they talk about getting attracted to one another and wanting to be with a person. But what I also had in mind was making it hilarious and that’s how we conceptualised the video.
Was singing always what you wanted to do?
I have always wanted to become an actor and singer and even completed a crash course from NSD. I have also recently done a commercial for a noted cola company. Throughout my school and college days, I have been actively involved with acting and singing and have also won a number of awards for the same.
How supportive has your family been to your choice of career?
My parents knew that my calling lay in the creative arts. But they always insisted that I complete my formal education and here I am completing my integrated MBA from Mumbai.
With plenty of new voices coming into the industry, courtesy the various talent hunt contests, where do you stand?
In this industry, luck calls the shots and only then comes talent. These competitions have the benefit of all the participants in mind and the platform is worthwhile. I’m proud of where I stand today because I got it after a lot of struggle.
What about playback singing?
I would love to do that some day. I want to get into Bollywood both as an actor and a singer.
So you want to be the next Himesh Reshammiya?
No, not exactly. I’d like to be compared to Kishoreda, not Himesh.
